The Posidona association, dedicated to promoting diving among women, held its first festival in l'Ametlla de Mar, bringing together around sixty participants to foster sorority and the exchange of experiences.
Calafat beach in l'Ametlla de Mar was the setting for this pioneering gathering that brought together professional and amateur divers from all over Catalonia. The event, organized by the Posidona Association of Women Divers, aimed to create a space for cohesion and empowerment for women within the world of scuba diving.
“
"Just as oceanic Posidonia serves as a refuge for many species, oxygenates the water, makes it transparent, and anchors the sand to prevent storms from washing away the beach, Posidona, through accompaniment, empowerment, and unity, aims to promote and facilitate access to and practice of scuba diving for all women."
Although weather conditions prevented the planned dives, participants enjoyed a day full of alternative activities. Round tables, breathing workshops, and talks on topics such as underwater archaeology and the emotional well-being provided by contact with the sea were organized. Attendees included everything from owners of diving centers and underwater photographers to researchers, instructors, and practitioners of adaptive diving.
“
"Historically, this has also been a predominantly male world, but that has changed a lot, and there are more and more women divers."
The festival is one of Posidona's many initiatives to bring diving closer to women of all ages. The association seeks to consolidate a contact network for the exchange of concerns and knowledge, disseminate the benefits of diving for physical and mental health, promote the protection of the marine environment through citizen science, and encourage inclusive diving.
