The Rotary Club Tortosa gathered over a hundred people at its second Solidarity Dinner, aimed at supporting the OIKIA project of Red Cross Tortosa, which provides basic assistance to vulnerable families.
This charitable initiative helped raise funds for the OIKIA project, a Greek word meaning 'home', which focuses on children aged 0 to 8 years. The goal is to cover essential needs such as food, hygiene, and psychosocial-emotional stimulation, offering two daily meals, an educational play space, and hot showers.
“
"The action is focused on children aged 0 to 8, to offer them two daily meals (snack and dinner), an educational play space, and a hot shower."
The project, originated in the local Tortosa assembly, has proven to be a successful model, with the potential to be replicated by other assemblies. Data from 2025 reflects the scale of the work carried out, with 3,598 daily meals provided, 1,677 hot showers, and 371 laundry services performed, in addition to climate-controlled educational spaces.
The president of the Tortosa Rotarians expressed satisfaction with the great reception of the dinner, highlighting the involvement of members in projects that benefit the community. A representative from the Tortosa City Council encouraged the club to continue its work, emphasizing its relevance in social issues.
“
"This gives meaning to the work done by all members of our club, an involvement to gain more strength to organize events and projects that allow us to help and contribute to the community a small part of what it asks of us."
In addition to solidarity activities, the Rotary Club Tortosa has already planned new initiatives. On May 2, within the framework of Expo Ebre 2025, which celebrates its eightieth anniversary, it will organize a round table titled 'Encounter of Life', with experts discussing quality of life. For July, coinciding with the Renaissance Festival, a twinning agreement will be formalized with the Rotary Club Avignon.
