A Renfe inspector and a woman were caught by the driver having sexual relations in the R16 train locomotive in Tortosa on August 9, resulting in a 30-minute delay.

The unusual incident took place at the Tortosa station (Baix Ebre) shortly before the scheduled departure of the R16 line train bound for França station in Barcelona, which was set for 8:55 PM. While delays are common on Rodalies lines, they rarely stem from such an unexpected cause.
When the driver went to the cab to start the service, he found the couple engaged in the act. Due to the limited space inside the locomotive, the couple's positions had touched some of the essential controls for driving the train.
The driver immediately reported the incident to his Renfe superiors and refused to operate the train using the contaminated instruments. To resolve the situation, the affected locomotive had to be detached from the carriages and a replacement machine was used.
This unit change caused the half-hour delay in the train's departure from the capital of Baix Ebre towards the Catalan capital. The locomotive where the incident occurred remained in Tortosa for a thorough cleaning. Renfe confirmed that it has opened a disciplinary file against the inspector involved.
