The Tortosa City Council plenary session has definitively approved the budget for 2026, rejecting the allegations presented by Junts per Tortosa. The new municipal accounts, amounting to 52.3 million euros, will come into effect this week.

The plenary session of the Tortosa City Council on Tuesday, in an extraordinary session, rejected the allegations presented by the Junts per Tortosa group against the 2026 budget. Consequently, the new municipal accounts will come into effect this week thanks to the votes of the 11 councilors from Movem Tortosa-PSC, ERC, and the CUP, the same groups that initially approved it on March 31st.
The mayor of the municipality, Mar Lleixà, celebrated the definitive approval of the 2026 budget, the third of her term and her first accounts as head of the government. Lleixà highlighted the negotiation, consensus, and collaboration with the CUP group, contrasting this political approach with the opposition from Junts per Tortosa.
The 2026 budget includes increased investment in public spaces, more resources for housing policies, a commitment to sustainability, and a prioritization of citizen care. With 52.3 million euros, it will be the largest budget in the City Council's history. Lleixà regretted that Junts presented allegations she considers political, as the budget is technically sound and supported by reports, with the sole aim of delaying its implementation. "We have resolved the allegations with maximum speed, because the City Council, entities, businesses, and citizens need this new budget," she remarked.
The general accounts amount to 52,306,000 euros, an 8.85% increase compared to 2025. For the first time, the municipal group exceeds 100 million euros in consolidated figures, reaching 100,135,668.49 euros, a 2.54% increase from the previous year. The investment allocation exceeds 7.9 million euros, a 72.44% rise, which the governing team describes as a "historic, expansive, and ambitious budget, adapted to the municipality's needs; yet also balanced, increasing investments without raising the tax burden on citizens."
The budget's growth is largely due to subsidies attracted by the municipal government, demonstrating its capacity to secure resources from other administrations. Notably, the 'Pla de Barris i Viles' (Neighborhoods and Towns Plan) includes a global investment of 25 million euros over the next five years for the Historic City, which is set to begin materializing in 2026.
