Tortosa commemorates Pride Month throughout June with a diverse program including cultural, educational, and advocacy activities, with the main event on June 27th at Teodor González park.

The city of Tortosa has unveiled an ambitious program to celebrate Pride Month, encompassing cultural, educational, participatory, and advocacy activities. The main event is scheduled for June 27th at the municipal park Teodor González, featuring a day open to the public with music, family activities, and the reading of the July 28th manifesto.
The mayor of Tortosa, Mar Lleixà, and the Councilor for Social Rights, Dolors Bel, presented the initiative. Lleixà emphasized the commitment to promoting awareness and coexistence regarding affective, sexual, and gender diversity, stating, "Tortosa is an open, plural, and diverse city, which we aim to build free from discrimination."
A highlight of this year's celebration will be the opening speech by singer Cristina Monllau, known for her electronic pop project focusing on diversity and LGTBIQ+ rights. Monllau will also perform a musical act during the main event.
As a symbolic gesture of support, the City Council will once again fly the LGTBIQ+ flag on the municipal building's facade and at other public facilities, including decentralized municipal entities, the Clínica Terres de l’Ebre, and the Hospital Santa Creu de Jesús. "It is a clear message: the municipality of Tortosa defends human rights, diversity, and the equality of all people," the mayor stated.
The program, which has already begun with activities such as a book club focusing on Eva Baltasar's Boulder, a screening of the film Philadelphia, and a talk on diversity, is designed to reach diverse audiences. Councilor Dolors Bel highlighted the cultural, educational, and community focus, including training for municipal staff on inclusive language.
Among the notable proposals is the performance 'Monologues in the Square' on June 18th at Plaça de l’Absis, which will address issues such as homophobia and non-binary identities. On the same day, the Chamber of Commerce will host the screening of the documentary GEN.
The central event on June 27th will commence at 6:30 PM at Teodor González park. It will feature a children's workshop, the reading of the manifesto, the creation of a collective mural with the entity AvantEbre, musical performances including Cristina Monllau, sets by DJ Capitano Barbacoño, and a performance by Cotton Midnight Trio, in collaboration with the Tortosa Jazz Showcase.
