This project addresses the request from local sports entities for more covered spaces suitable for year-round training and competitions. Mayor Mar Lleixà emphasized the importance of enhancing existing facilities to make them more functional given the city's growing sports activity.
The new structure, spanning 1,341 square meters with a minimum height of 5.72 meters, will create a double court homologated as POL-2, adhering to the standards of the Consell Català de l’Esport. Currently, the area features an outdoor court used by both sports clubs and the public.
First Deputy Mayor Jordi Jordan highlighted the goal of increasing available hours and spaces for sports practice, thereby alleviating the shortage of facilities.
The construction, carried out by Taurus Renovables SL, was initially scheduled for completion on November 3rd. However, exceptionally high summer temperatures delayed outdoor work. The company continued with the design and manufacturing of the roof in its workshops during this period.
The project includes provisions for future enhancements, such as enclosing the courts and installing photovoltaic panels to improve energy efficiency.
This action is part of the municipal policy to upgrade sports facilities, which has already seen interventions at the Remolins and Ferreries pavilions, the stadium, the velodrome, and sports facilities in Els Reguers and Vinallop. Further improvements are also planned for the Jordi Angelats pavilion and the Josep Otero football field changing rooms.
