The Tortosa City Council has formalized its adherence to the Pacte Nacional per la Llengua (National Pact for the Language) in an event with the Minister of Linguistic Policy, Francesc Xavier Vila. This action involves the launch of the new Department of the Catalan Language, which will be led by Councillor Pilar Caballé, aiming to deploy all actions defined in the national linguistic agreement.
Mayor Mar Lleixà highlighted that the city's commitment to Catalan will be manifested through key events. Among them, Tortosa will host the Correllengua Agermanat during the Sant Jordi festival and a second event in collaboration with the association Posa-hi Tu l’Accent.
“"The commitment to the National Pact for the Language will have a deployment and a transversal linguistic perspective from all areas of the council."
In addition to promoting Catalan as a tool for integration in the city, the Mayor stressed the importance of defending the local Tortosí dialect as a fundamental element of local identity. The ultimate goal is to turn the Catalan language into an element of social cohesion in Tortosa.
