The Tortosa government team has expressed its rejection and surprise regarding the allegations presented by Junts per Tortosa against the 2026 municipal budget, which could delay its entry into force.

The mayor of Tortosa and the municipal government councillors publicly appeared to express their dissatisfaction with the decision of Junts per Tortosa. This group submitted allegations to the City Council's budget for 2026 on the last day of the deadline, an action that has drawn criticism from the local executive.

"We are talking about a budget that was approved by an absolute majority on March 31, and which was supposed to come into effect this week."

The mayor lamented that Junts' allegations were presented with the same arguments already put forward in the plenary session. She pointed out that, if the intention had been to improve the budget, they would have been submitted earlier, and accused the group of wanting to delay the implementation of the largest budget in the City Council's history, valued at 52.3 million euros, with the intention of paralyzing municipal activity.

"These allegations may delay planned investments and policies by a few weeks, but they will not stop us. Tortosa will have a new budget in 2026, and it will be the highest in history."

The municipal government denounced a "destructive opposition" and an "attempt to block" by Junts per Tortosa, considering that this way of doing politics harms the entire citizenry. It was emphasized that the approved budget has all favorable technical reports, indicating that the allegations are purely political in nature.
The local executive recalled that, unlike previous governments, the groups of Movem Tortosa-PSC and Esquerra have negotiated and agreed upon the third budgets of the current mandate with the support of the CUP. These budgets, the first with the current mayor at the helm, are described as historic, expansive, and ambitious, with an increase in investments without raising tax pressure. They are expected to boost the revitalization of the Historic City with the start of the Generalitat's Neighborhoods and Towns Plan during 2026, with more investment in public spaces, housing policies, and sustainability, prioritizing people's well-being.
