“"If they had truly wanted to improve the Budget, they would have presented allegations the day after the approval of the largest budget in the history of the City Council, with 52.3 million euros. But they waited until the last day of the deadline for one reason only: with the intention of delaying the budget's entry into force as much as possible, and trying to paralyze the City Council and the city."

Facade of Tortosa City Council under sunlight.
The municipal government of Tortosa has expressed its rejection and surprise at the allegations presented by Junts per Tortosa to the 2026 budget, which could delay its entry into force.
The mayor of Tortosa and the local government councilors publicly appeared to express their dissatisfaction with the decision of Junts per Tortosa. This group submitted allegations to the 2026 municipal budget on the last day of the deadline, despite the fact that the City Council plenary had already approved it by an absolute majority on March 31.
According to the mayor, Junts per Tortosa's attitude represents a "destructive opposition and an attempt to block" that harms the entire citizenry. She emphasized that the 2026 budget, totaling 52.3 million euros, is the largest in the City Council's history and has all favorable technical reports, indicating that the allegations are purely political.
The municipal government, formed by Movem Tortosa-PSC and Esquerra, with the support of the CUP, has managed to reach a consensus on these budgets, the third of the current term. These accounts are considered "historic, expansive, and ambitious," as they increase investments without raising the tax burden on citizens.
One of the main objectives of the 2026 budget is the revitalization of the Historic City, thanks to the start of the Generalitat's Neighborhoods and Towns Plan, which foresees a global investment of 25 million euros over the next five years. The mayor concluded that, although the allegations may delay investments by a few weeks, they will not stop the approval of the new budget.
