Mayor Mar Lleixà and Culture Councilor Jordi Jordan presented the events, which are part of a joint effort by eight municipalities to celebrate Abu Bakr Year. The initiative aims to highlight the intellectual's contributions to peace and intercultural dialogue.
The program starts on March 20th at the Palau Oliver de Boteller with a performance titled Mediterranean Voices, connecting al-Turtushi's legacy with the work of Mallorcan writer Blai Bonet. Musician Arturo Gaya will also perform pieces inspired by the poet's texts.
In September, the city will host the main events, including an exhibition, a documentary screening, and guided tours of Tortosa's Andalusian heritage. The program also includes educational activities and a seminar focused on combating modern Islamophobia.
