The Mayor of Tortosa, Mar Lleixà, has formally requested the Catalan Ministry of Justice to take legal action to unblock the removal of the Battle of the Ebro monument, which has been stalled since 2021.

In a letter to Minister Ramon Espadaler, the local government argues that the legal grounds for the current injunction have vanished. This follows the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the monument's declassification, which was originally approved in November 2020.

"The conditions set by the court to withhold a final ruling have now disappeared."

The CUP party has also joined the pressure, announcing a motion for the next city council meeting to demand an updated technical project and a clear execution calendar for the dismantling of the controversial structure located in the Ebro river.
