The Catalan Sports Council confirmed on January 7 a direct subsidy of 1.7 million euros to the Tortosa City Council to start the construction of a national-category athletics track in Jesús.

The agreement authorizes the direct grant to finance the construction of the eight-lane track, the stands, and the referee towers, which make up Phase 1 of the project. This investment addresses a long-standing demand from the Club Atletisme Terres de l’Ebre (ATE), as the current municipal track is only suitable for training.

"A few months ago, the current governing team secured this 1.7 million subsidy, within the framework of the Comuns' negotiation with the PSC government. Now the Generalitat has given the green light to the first phase of the project."

Jordi Jordan · Councillor of Tortosa City Council
The new facility will be regulation size and can be certified by both the Catalan and Spanish Athletics Federations, allowing it to host national and state competitions. It will be located right next to the current WIN Jesús facilities.
Councillor Jordi Jordan explained that to allocate the entire 1.7 million euros to the track and stands construction, existing changing rooms at the adjacent WIN Jesús facilities will be utilized, postponing the construction of new changing rooms until later phases of the project.
