The Mayor of Tortosa, Mar Lleixà, reviewed her first month in office since January 2026, confirming her intention to lead the Esquerra Republicana ticket in the 2027 municipal elections.

Mar Lleixà assumed the mayoralty of Tortosa on January 10, 2026, fulfilling the progressive government pact signed in June 2023 with Movem Tortosa-PSC. As the first republican mayor in 87 years, Lleixà emphasized a leadership style based on consensus, dialogue, and feminism, rejecting authoritarian approaches. She noted that her previous experience as the territorial director of Health during the pandemic provided her with the necessary composure to face the municipal challenges.

"Consensus is not built overnight, and I believe this is the start of a path towards possible agreements with the landowners, which Jordi Jordan began and I will continue."

Regarding urban challenges, Lleixà addressed the new university hospital for the Terres de l'Ebre, stating that negotiations for land acquisition are on schedule and that dialogue is preferred over expropriation. She also highlighted the Pla de Barris urban regeneration project, which will invest 25 million euros until 2029 to rehabilitate historic areas like Rastre, Remolins, Call Jueu, and Santa Clara.
The mayor advocates for Tortosa to capitalize on the leadership of the Terres de l'Ebre region. She criticized the current Rodalies railway service as undignified, demanding that the Catalan Government execute promised investments. Furthermore, she stressed the importance of the UNESCO World Heritage candidacy for the Tortosa walls, viewing it as a “qualitative leap” to attract high-quality tourism.

"Tortosa has great potential; it is a diamond we need to polish, and we must believe in ourselves and cultivate self-esteem to show it with pride."

Concerning the controversial Francoist monument on the Ebre river, Lleixà confirmed the process is judicialized and that, should a removal sentence be issued, the Department of Justice must act swiftly. Finally, she confirmed her intention to lead the ERC ticket in 2027, aiming to leave behind “a better Tortosa” and consolidate the republican era she has begun.
