Lleixà secured the support of the governing coalition (Movem-PSC and ERC) and the CUP, totaling 11 votes against the 10 received by the opposition leader, Meritxell Roigé (Junts). This change occurs halfway through the mandate, as agreed, with Jordan becoming the first deputy mayor.
“"I will give my all, I will work with commitment, enthusiasm, and determination."
In her speech, Lleixà highlighted the historical significance of the moment, being the first Republican woman to hold the office in 87 years, recalling the Republican mayor Josep Rodríguez, executed by Francoism. She promised a Tortosa that is “Republican, cohesive, and centered on people,” and announced the creation of a councilorship to protect the Catalan language.
One of the most applauded commitments was the pressure to remove the Francoist monument from the Ebre River, calling it a “historical grievance.” She also reached out to the opposition, asking Junts to abandon the “politics of noise” and confrontation, and defended the legitimacy of the government agreement.
“"Today, the mayoralty is taken by the one who lost the most votes, with only 3 councilors out of 21 of the corporation."
