The state entity issued a statement to deny the claims made by Meritxell Roigé, spokesperson for Junts per Tortosa, regarding the cancellation of the works scheduled for 2026, which had been announced by Minister Jordi Hereu last November.
The overall project foresees an investment of 14.3 million euros. Of this, 10.3 million corresponds to actions promoted by Paradores and 4 million to interventions executed by Turespaña, which are currently underway and expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026. The latter focus on the conservation and access to the historical elements of the site, such as the galleries of the Suda and the north bastion of the wall.
Paradores continues to work on the administrative and technical processing to undertake the comprehensive reform that will allow the establishment to be updated.
Paradores assured that the project is progressing “according to technical planning,” although it admits that the “initially planned development” has been re-planned to include “additional actions in key areas.” This re-planning responds to criteria of efficiency, quality of the final result, and optimization of the investment, including the renovation of rooms, bathrooms, electrical installations, and air conditioning.
The controversy arose from Roigé's announcement, who took the opportunity to criticize former mayor Jordi Jordan, accusing him of making “opportunistic announcements” just before the mayoral handover.
