The Terres de l'Ebre region was the scene of several shocking crimes during the first decade of the 21st century, with cases ranging from double homicides to parricides, marking the region's dark chronicle.

The first decade of the 21st century left a significant mark on the crime history of the Terres de l'Ebre, with a series of homicides and murders that shocked society. From 2001 to 2009, the region witnessed violent acts with various motivations, from robberies to personal disputes and gender violence.
One of the first cases that shook the region was the double crime in Bot, between December 2001 and early January 2002. On January 14, 2002, the body of Igor Antonievich, 34 years old, was found with signs of violence on the regional road C-3301. The autopsy revealed a craniocerebral trauma and multiple fractures. Days earlier, Alexandre Drianyc, 52 years old, had been murdered in a home on Horta Street, also in Bot, and his mummified body was found months later, on May 15, 2002. For these events, Andrej Martjanov was sentenced to 34 and a half years in prison, and Egidijus Grizas to nine and a half years as an accomplice.
The year 2004 was marked by gender violence crimes. In El Perelló, on February 10, Antoni N. was arrested for the murder of Daniela Plugariu, 25 years old. Later, in May 2004, the deaths of Albert Subirats, 18 years old, and Melody Lleixà, 15, in Mas de Barberans, shocked the town. The autopsy determined that Albert shot Melody and then committed suicide.

Juan Alberto G.D. was sentenced to seventeen years in prison for murder and two years for illegal possession of weapons. In Tortosa, in June, a drug-related fight resulted in the deaths of a 28-year-old man and his 54-year-old mother, at the hands of the Gabarri brothers, who were sentenced to a total of 36 years in prison. The Febamar case, in Alcanar on December 4, involved the murder of Felipe Barrio and Stella Afodoroaie, with Rubén S. and David A. sentenced to 54 and 50 years in prison, respectively.
