The Tortosa Chamber of Commerce has formalized a contribution of 3,000 euros to Project Emma, a key initiative for biomedical breast cancer research developed in the Terres de l’Ebre region.

The signing ceremony was attended by the president of the Tortosa Chamber of Commerce, Francesc Faiges, and doctor Carlos López, research coordinator at the Hospital Universitari de Tortosa Verge de la Cinta and Project Emma. This donation will directly contribute to acquiring laboratory materials, genetic analysis of patient samples, and hiring research and technical personnel.

"This money has allowed us to hire different researchers from the territory while we sought public funding to be able to stabilize them for a longer time within the research team."

Carlos López · Project Emma Coordinator
Dr. López recalled that Project Emma began in 2020 and has since surpassed €350,000 in private donations. He also stressed the importance of retaining young researchers in the Terres de l’Ebre, noting that the extra support will allow for expanding planned genetic studies and reinforcing training through European courses and conferences.

"This contribution reflects the Chamber's commitment to society and to initiatives that have a real impact on people's lives."

Francesc Faiges · President of the Tortosa Chamber of Commerce
President Francesc Faiges highlighted the region's solidarity with biomedical research, stating that collaborating with the project is a way to help thousands of women, not only locally but worldwide, and to give visibility to the initiative among the Ebro business community.
