The Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) has organized a workshop in Tortosa to prepare citizens for the August 12 solar eclipse, leveraging a solar position similar to that of the actual phenomenon.

Around sixty people participated this Wednesday in an outdoor practical session, where they could rehearse observing the eclipse. The workshop, led by a professor of Behavioral Science Methodology, explained the astronomical phenomenon and the necessary safety measures to enjoy it.
During the session, the image of the Sun was projected onto a screen using an adapted telescope, allowing attendees to observe it without risk. The importance of using approved protective glasses and not extending direct observations for more than two minutes was also emphasized, except during the totality of the eclipse, when the solar corona will be visible.

"The tickets (60), and this hardly ever happens with any activity, were completely sold out on the first day, and we had a waiting list."

the director of the Terres de l'Ebre Campus of the URV
The total solar eclipse, scheduled for August 12 at 8:24 PM, will last one and a half minutes in the Terres de l'Ebre, making it the area with the longest visibility. It is recommended to plan the observation in advance, choose accessible nearby locations to avoid mobility issues, and bring supplies.
The URV, through its Campus Extens, offers these workshops to local councils, reinforcing its commitment to scientific dissemination and preparing the public for astronomical events. Interest in the eclipse has been significant, with high demand for the organized activities.
