78-year-old man suffers severe burns in domestic fire in Sant Feliu de Guíxols

The incident took place in the morning at the victim's home, who was transferred to Vall d'Hebron Hospital by helicopter.

A 78-year-old man has sustained severe burns after his armchair caught fire at his home in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, in the Baix Empordà region, and has been airlifted to Vall d'Hebron Hospital.

The incident occurred around 07:30 AM, when the Bombers de la Generalitat received an alert about a fire in a residence. Three units were quickly dispatched to the scene, where they confirmed that the fire had originated in an armchair and had already been extinguished.
The victim, who had mobility issues, alerted the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) through the telecare service. Due to the severity of the burns, which affected almost half of his body, the SEM mobilized a medical helicopter and two ambulances for his transfer to the reference hospital.
