Less than a year before the 2027 municipal elections, the mayor of Palamós, Maria Puig, and the leader of the opposition, Teresa Ferrés, reviewed the mandate and contrasted their priorities for the municipality's future on a Radio Capital program.

The debate, which began cordially with personal acknowledgments, escalated to core political issues, revealing two opposing views on municipal management. Mayor Puig described the term as "intense" and argued that the mayoral succession had ushered in a new era with a fresh perspective.
Conversely, Teresa Ferrés rejected the notion of distinct periods, holding Puig responsible for decisions made since 2015. The spokesperson for Som-hi denounced issues with security, mobility, urban maintenance, and a lack of management in the town.
The primary point of contention was the new waste collection and street cleaning contract. Puig defended the model, highlighting technological control and adaptation to legal requirements for improved recycling. Ferrés, however, criticized the door-to-door system as unsuitable for Palamós and Sant Joan, and denounced the increase in the waste tax.
On housing, both leaders agreed on its importance as a future challenge. Puig pointed to the promotion of affordable housing and land allocation, while Ferrés called for more resources and a focus on rehabilitation and social rental housing.
Security and public space were also debated. Ferrés cited neglect in gardening, a shortage of local police officers, and mobility problems. Puig countered by defending police coordination strategies and future projects like the Enric Vincke parking area.
Regarding floods, there was agreement on the need for preventive investment, with actions already taken. However, Ferrés questioned some technical solutions and stressed the urgency of a definitive wastewater treatment plant solution.
The discussion on investments included Ferrés' criticism of the promenade reform and demands for facilities, while Puig highlighted the municipality's sound financial standing and external funding acquisition.
Looking towards the 2027 elections, Teresa Ferrés confirmed her intention to lead the Som-hi candidacy, pending internal approval. Maria Puig, meanwhile, has not yet made a final decision on seeking re-election.
