The Calonge i Sant Antoni Town Council started beach and promenade cleaning operations this week to repair damages caused by the storm that hit the coast on January 20.

The cleaning tasks were delayed because subsequent rains kept the sand too wet for heavy machinery to work safely. Now that the ground has dried, workers in Calonge i Sant Antoni have started clearing the coastline.
The operation involves removing reeds, debris, and displaced sand. After the initial phase, a sifting machine will collect smaller residues to restore the beaches of Baix Empordà to their best condition.
The total cost of the repairs is estimated at 200,000 euros. This investment covers damages to the promenade, beaches, and several rural paths and streams affected by Storm Harry.
With these actions, the council aims to guarantee the safety of public spaces and restore normality to the coast before the tourist season begins, ensuring secure access to local shops and restaurants.
