Following the control of the fire in Les Gavarres, the extreme risk of forest fires remains in effect in the region and across the country. This situation follows an episode of simultaneous fires in various Catalan locations such as Santmenat (Vallès Occidental), Artesa de Segre (Segrià), Aiguamúrcia (Alt Camp), Carme (Anoia), Navarcles (Bages), Vielha e Mijaran (Valle de Arán), and Gavà (Baix Llobregat).
In response to this wave of fires, the Rural Agents have activated the extreme risk alert in several municipalities through the Plan Alfa. Specifically, in the Baix Empordà, 11 municipalities are at extreme risk. The remaining municipalities in the region are at level 2, except for Albons, which remains at level 1. Among the municipalities at level 4 are the 7 towns that had to be confined due to the fire.
The Plan Alfa is the operational protocol of the Rural Agents designed to organize surveillance and prevention tasks against the risk of forest fires throughout Catalonia. This system is active year-round, with daily updates on the danger level. The risk scale has five levels, from 0 (low risk) to 4 (extreme danger). Activation is determined municipality by municipality to better adapt preventive measures and enhance the protection of the population and the natural environment.
