Workers at Prezero España, the company managing waste and urban sanitation in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, will begin an indefinite strike this Sunday at 10 PM. The announcement, made by the CCOO union, coincides with one of the peak waste generation periods of the year.
The main cause of the conflict is what the union describes as a «systematic deadlock in the collective agreement negotiations». Workers are demanding salary increases aligned with inflation and report that meetings with company management have been «sterile», with no viable proposals presented to maintain their purchasing power amidst rising inflation.
Beyond economic issues, concerns about working conditions are also highlighted. The «precarious state» of trucks and machinery is denounced, posing a «daily risk to road safety and operator health». Structural staff shortages are being covered by a «systematic overload» of the current workforce, impacting work-life balance and employee health.
The CCOO union also regrets the «immovability» of Prezero's management at the Sant Feliu de Guíxols site and the lack of commitment from the Consell Comarcal de la Selva. The intervention of the Sant Feliu de Guíxols City Council is demanded so that the administration can compel the company's management to present a «dignified proposal», thereby preventing the town's streets from being affected.
