The Municipal Council of the Palamós City Council appointed Joan Torras as the new municipal ombudsman yesterday, Tuesday, September 15, in a decision approved unanimously.

Joan Torras will officially assume the responsibility next October, after the appointment is ratified by Mayoral Decree and published in the Official Provincial Gazette. Torras succeeds Fina Camós, who held the position for the past five years, being the first woman to serve as ombudsman in Palamós.
At 72 years old, Joan Torras is an industrial mechanical and construction engineer. His professional career has been primarily in the private industrial sector, with management roles in production and quality management. He has worked for companies such as Nacional Motor (Derbi), IAR Ibérica, Cata Electrodomésticos, and Especialidades Eléctricas Daga, where he also managed teams and resolved conflicts.
His academic background includes a master's degree in Quality Management, a diploma in Operations and Innovation from ESADE, and studies in Political Science at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
Parallel to his professional life, Torras has had a strong connection with culture and associative life, particularly through music. He has been a tenor and secretary of the Coral El Progrés and a baritone in the habaneras group Norai de Palamós. He currently sings as a tenor in the Coral Polifònica de Ganollers and is also an opera and symphonic music enthusiast.
His connection with Palamós also extends to volunteering, with experience in educational support at the Institut de Palamós and in Catalan conversation activities for foreigners. His hobbies include cooking and restoring antique pendulum clocks.
During the Council meeting, the municipality thanked Fina Camós for her work and welcomed Joan Torras, highlighting the importance of his new role in defending citizens' rights.
