The La Bisbal d'Empordà City Council and the Department of Territory signed an agreement this March to design a three-kilometer canal to prevent the Daró River from flooding the town.

The project aims to divert water during heavy rain episodes, protecting the historic center and the industrial estate. The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) will fund the design phase, with the goal of completing the infrastructure before 2030.

"The problem we usually face is that the river overflows through the city center. We finally see that this is possible, providing us with much more security."

Minister Sílvia Paneque also confirmed additional works in the Baix Ter area to reinforce riverbanks. Furthermore, the Gi-660 road will be transferred to the municipality to be transformed into a local street with a 1.5 million euro investment.
