The Palamós City Council and local business associations have voiced their frustration after a repeat offender with 59 prior arrests was released by a judge.

The individual was recently detained by the Mossos d'Esquadra for three robberies in Palamós and la Bisbal d'Empordà. Despite his extensive criminal record, the court in la Bisbal ordered his release pending trial.

"It is the helplessness that municipalities suffer; we work hard, but then we find that between the arrest and the trial, they continue to offend."

Maria Puig · Mayor of Palamós
Mayor Maria Puig has called for more judicial resources to address the social alarm caused by such cases. Meanwhile, shopkeepers have started placing signs in their windows stating that no cash is kept on the premises to prevent further break-ins.
