The initiative aims to adapt this 45,000 square meter space to the effects of climate change, enhance its landscape quality, and organize its uses and services. The intervention will extend from the port's parking area to Aragó street, excluding the Ports de la Generalitat zone and the section closest to Calonge i Sant Antoni.
A key aspect of the project is the removal of the current gravel parking lot, deemed contrary to coastal law. Sand affected by fine particles from the pavement will be extracted and reused to form the base of a new dune ecosystem with native vegetation.
The renovation also includes a substantial improvement in pedestrian access. An entrance will be created for each street leading to the promenade, overcoming current accessibility limitations. These new accesses will feature wooden platforms with amenities like showers, foot washes, and benches, along with walkways to other facilities.
Between Aragó and Provença streets, a wider access area is planned, designed as a space for activity and leisure. Additionally, existing beach services and installations, such as parking lot lighting and pipelines, will be removed to integrate new, removable services.
Through this intervention, Palamós intends to renaturalize the beach, improve services, and strengthen its adaptation to rising sea levels, adhering to principles of sustainable tourism and public coastal space enhancement.
