The Baix Empordà region has seen a significant increase in the formalization of rental contracts during the first quarter of 2026. Figures indicate a rise of approximately 10 percent compared to the same period last year, marking a positive shift in trend.
Municipalities such as Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Calonge i Sant Antoni, and Torroella de Montgrí are leading this growth. Other locations like Palafrugell and Palamós also show positive development, albeit at a more moderate pace.
At the Girona provincial level, the increase in rental contracts is also around 10 percent, one of the most notable rises in Catalonia. This improvement breaks the downward trend observed last year, although the total volume remains below historical levels.
Regarding prices, the trend is not uniform. While some municipalities are experiencing increases, others show decreases, suggesting that the rise in the number of contracts does not necessarily translate into a widespread increase in rental costs.
Seasonal rental contracts, on the other hand, have seen a decline, with the drop in the Girona region being more contained than in other parts of Catalonia.
The College of Real Estate Agents of Girona has positively assessed this change in trend. However, the entity points out that the market continues to suffer from a shortage of available housing and calls for a stable legal framework to encourage more supply in the rental market, considering that one quarter of recovery does not solve a structural problem.
