The Torroella de Montgrí Town Council has begun an urgent operation this week to remove debris from local beaches following the significant impact of Storm Harry.

Cleanup efforts started on Monday at Montgó beach and moved to the Ter river mouth area on Tuesday. As the final destination for river runoff, the local coastline has accumulated vast amounts of organic waste and debris that must be cleared before the Easter holidays.
The municipality has fast-tracked service contracts to ensure the beaches are safe and clean for visitors. Working alongside Natural Park officials, teams are using a mix of specialized machinery and manual labor to protect the environmentally sensitive dunes and shores of l'Estartit.
Starting next week, the Generalitat Firefighters will conduct controlled burns of the collected organic material. Local officials expect the restoration process to be completed within four to six weeks, ensuring the area is ready for the high tourist season.
