Thirty divers carried out a cleanup operation this Sunday on the seabed of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, removing a large amount of waste accumulated along the coast.

The initiative, organized by a local diving center, focused on areas near the mouth of the stream. Volunteers extracted various types of debris, ranging from cans and plastics to fishing nets and a large quantity of wet wipes, which accumulate on the seabed due to currents and human activity.
The campaign's main goal is to raise public awareness about domestic waste management. According to the organizers, wet wipes pose a serious environmental problem, as they take decades to decompose and break down into microplastics that enter the marine food chain.

"We must reflect on the use of wet wipes and how we should manage them."

Last year, this same initiative removed nearly 300 kilos of wet wipes from the seabed. The organizers hope this year's results will highlight the need for a change in consumption and waste management habits to preserve the health of the Costa Brava coastline.
