The winter gastronomic campaign La Garoinada, a benchmark event on the Costa Brava, reaches its 35th edition. It runs from January 16 until March 29, involving nine restaurants and five accommodations in Palafrugell, Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc, and Tamariu.
Participating establishments will offer a set menu featuring sea urchins (garoines) as a starter, a main course choice (the traditional catxoflino or an alternative), and the traditional xuixo pastry as dessert. The menus are paired with wine from the Mas Oller winery and are priced between 60 and 68 euros.
“"The Garoinada is an opportunity to show the world that Palafrugell is not just sun and beach, but that we also have our own identity and tradition."
New additions this year include two complementary experiences: a ceramics workshop for decorating plates with sea urchins, led by the artist Laura Elias, and a classic boat trip departing from Llafranc port, which includes a tasting of garoines and Empordà wine.
Acting Mayor Marc Piferrer emphasized the campaign's value as an economic driver outside the high season, noting that it helps hotels, restaurants, and businesses to "maintain activity, preserve jobs, and reduce dependence on the summer months".
