The Palafrugell City Council and Veolia have begun the third phase of the main drinking water pipeline renewal, affecting Plaça Nova and Carrer Cavallers, aiming to complete the works before Easter.
This phase of the works, expected to last between three and six weeks, has been agreed upon with local merchants and the Oohxigen Merchants Association to minimize disruption to economic activity in central Palafrugell. The overall project, which began last July, will renew over one kilometer of the main water transport network.
“
"The new installation will allow the network to be separated into a transport pipe and a distribution pipe, which will guarantee better water pressure, reduce losses, and ensure a more stable and efficient supply."
The key action involves doubling the main pipeline into two conduits: one for transport, carrying water from the Cantallops reservoir, and another for distribution, reaching individual connections. This separation increases service resilience, significantly reducing supply interruptions in case of incidents.
In addition to physical renewal, the project includes network sectorization and the installation of meters with telemeasurement, which will reach 94% coverage in the municipality. This digital system allows for rapid leak detection and is expected to improve network performance by 1.4%, surpassing the average efficiency in Catalonia, which stands at 74%.

"These works will not only benefit, with a better service, the users in the streets where the improvements will be carried out, but also all the inhabitants of Palafrugell, given that the new transport pipe will provide greater resilience to the water service."
