The Palafrugell Municipal Plenary has approved an agreement with the Catalan Housing Agency to build up to 16 protected homes on five municipal plots.

The plots, located on Mas Gras and Pau Claris streets, are part of the public land reserve of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The City Council makes these five plots available to the Agency, which will select the developer for the future homes.
At least 25% of the homes will be reserved for young people under 35 years old. Additionally, up to 10% may be allocated to individuals in situations of greater residential vulnerability, through the emergency board.
The agreement also establishes residency requirements, with a minimum of three years of residency to access the homes, and priority for those who have lived in the municipality for at least five years.
The Councilor for Housing, Margarita Mauri, highlighted the importance of having land to advance new protected housing developments and noted that work continues to identify new plots.
The next phase will be the selection of the developer through a public tender managed by the Housing Agency. This developer will be responsible for the construction, management, and maintenance of the homes, which will be prioritized for rent or usufruct.
Interested individuals must meet the general requirements for protected housing and be registered in the Registry of Applicants for Protected Housing. Registration is free and can be done year-round, both online and in person at the Palafrugell Municipal Housing Office.
Four of the plots were incorporated into the Generalitat's public land reserve in 2025, and a fifth was added in 2026, allowing the grouping of the five plots to advance the project and apply for public grants.
