The works reflect the entity's professionals' participation in multicenter studies and research networks, contributing to the generation of scientific knowledge and the improvement of care quality and health outcomes.
Dr. Germán Sierra-Palomares and Dr. Maria Daniela Rojas Piñero (Internal Medicine Service of Hospital de Palamós) collaborated on the article "Recurrent venous thromboembolism and bleeding during anticoagulation in patients with deep-vein thrombosis treated with vitamin K antagonists or direct oral anticoagulants: insights from the RIETE registry", published in European Journal of Internal Medicine. The study, based on the international RIETE registry, analyzes 24,728 patients and suggests that direct oral anticoagulants are associated with a lower risk of thromboembolic recurrence and severe bleeding, despite a higher incidence of non-severe bleeding.
M. Carmen Fernández Ribas, a pharmacist at Hospital de Palamós, participated in the multicenter study "Appropriateness of surgical antibiotic prophylaxis in Spanish hospitals: a national multicentre cross-sectional study", published in The Lancet Regional Health - Europe. The analysis of 2,198 patients from 91 Spanish hospitals reveals that only 31.8% of surgical antibiotic prophylaxis prescriptions adhered to national recommendations, highlighting the need to optimize antibiotic use.
Dr. Antoni Soriano, a pediatrician at SSIBE, co-authored two articles: "Seasonal Dynamics of Pediatric Herpangina and Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease in Catalonia, Spain (2014-2025): A Primary Care-based Epidemiologic Study" in The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, which analyzes the seasonal evolution of herpangina and hand, foot, and mouth disease in children under five in Catalonia; and "Epidemiological trends of invasive Streptococcus pyogenes infections in Catalonia, 2022-2024: a two-year analysis" in Infection, which describes the evolution of invasive group A Streptococcus infections in Catalonia, showing a decrease in incidence in the 2023-2024 season.
Additionally, Dr. Antoni Soriano participated in the international study "Pediatricians' attitudes and knowledge of RSV immunization", published in PLOS ONE. The survey of 578 pediatricians from Spain, Italy, Greece, and Cyprus reveals a generally favorable attitude towards immunization against the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), but also knowledge gaps and organizational difficulties that may affect its implementation.
