Castelldefels officially exceeds 70,000 inhabitants according to IDESCAT data

The municipality in Baix Llobregat recorded a 0.87% population growth over the last year, driven by proximity to Barcelona and quality of life.

The city of Castelldefels reached 70,057 residents as of January 1, 2025, according to official figures from the Institute of Statistics of Catalonia (IDESCAT), reflecting a 0.87% increase.

The data published by the Institut d'Estadística de Catalunya (IDESCAT) confirms that the population of Castelldefels stood at 70,057 people on January 1, 2025. This increase represents a growth of 607 people compared to the previous year, with a relative variation of 0.87%.
The appeal of Castelldefels lies in its strategic location, just 25 kilometers from Barcelona, and its good network of communications and facilities. Furthermore, the quality of life offered by the beach and the proximity to the Garraf Park are key factors in this demographic growth.
The Baix Llobregat region has also experienced population growth, albeit at the same relative rate (0.87%) as Castelldefels itself. The region added 7,380 inhabitants, reaching 857,985 residents. It is noteworthy that Baix Llobregat is the metropolitan region with the lowest population growth, as the Barcelonès leads the increase with 1.97%.
Regarding the most populated municipalities in Baix Llobregat, Cornellà de Llobregat remains in the lead with 92,237 inhabitants, followed by Sant Boi de Llobregat with 85,610. At the other end, the least populated municipalities are Castellví de Rosanes (2,171) and La Palma de Cervelló (3,056).
