The measure, requested by the Ministry of Transport, remains in effect pending new technical evaluations to determine the duration of the restriction.

The closure of the AP-7 highway southbound near Martorell, initiated on Wednesday due to the risk of collapse of the retaining wall, caused queues of up to 18 kilometers on the A-2 during the morning rush hour this Monday.

The interruption of traffic on the AP-7, between Martorell and Vilafranca del Penedès, was decided as a consequence of the instability of the retaining wall located just below the highway pavement. This is the same wall that caused the fatal Rodalies train accident in Gelida last week.

"This is a road safety intervention. There is a risk of collapse."

The closure, which began on Wednesday afternoon, will remain in place for the next few days. The decision was requested by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. Pending technical evaluations scheduled for this Thursday, the specific duration of the restriction has not yet been determined.
The impact peaked during the Monday morning rush hour, when the A-2 recorded up to 18 kilometers of queues eastbound between Cornellà de Llobregat and Martorell at seven in the morning. Although the congestion gradually eased, it still exceeded 15 kilometers by nine in the morning.
The Catalan Traffic Service estimates that the restriction will affect about 120,000 daily vehicles, including 25,000 heavy vehicles. Alternative routes have been established, such as the C-32 (temporarily free), the C-25, the N-340, and the C-15, with the recommendation to use the A-2 up to Igualada before taking the C-15.
