Oriol Junqueras, leader of ERC, announced this Monday that his party is withdrawing its IRPF collection bill to focus on negotiating legal amendments with Pedro Sánchez's government in Madrid.

The pro-independence party aims to modify the Lofca (the organic law financing autonomous communities) to allow Catalonia to manage its own income tax. This strategic shift is intended to facilitate a majority in the Spanish Congress, as the previous bill faced significant legislative hurdles.

"We are looking for all ways to achieve it, and the most useful one is a package of amendments agreed with the PSOE."

This move directly impacts the Catalan Government's budget negotiations. ERC has warned Salvador Illa's PSC that without a firm commitment from the central government regarding tax collection, they will not support the upcoming regional budget.
