The ministry has commissioned an informative study for the implementation of a quadruple track between Castelldefels and El Prat de Llobregat, as well as an alternatives study to increase capacity between El Prat de Llobregat and Sants station, a major railway hub in the metropolitan area of Barcelona.
The company SAITEC S.A.U. has been awarded the contract and has 30 months to carry out the necessary analysis. The primary objective is to define the most effective solutions to enhance the capacity and reliability of the rail service, adapting the infrastructure to future demand.
These actions aim to strengthen services originating from the south, facilitate dynamic train overtakes, and increase the circulation speed of regional services on this corridor.
The improvements are part of the Rodalies de Catalunya Plan 2020–2030, which includes significant investments to boost the railway network's capacity and improve its urban integration, striving for a more efficient and competitive service.
