The Molins de Rei City Council has initiated a project to enhance lunchtime and school canteens, stemming from a participatory process that brought together children, families, educational centers, and managing companies.

Within the framework of the Educational Plan of the Town (PEV), the Molins de Rei City Council has launched an initiative to improve lunchtime and school canteens. This proposal arises from contributions made to the PEV by children and families, as well as the current Children's Plan, which identified this space as a point of interest for the educational community.
Although direct management of the school canteen service is not a municipal competence, the City Council, with the support of the consultancy firm EduXarXA, has promoted this process to foster reflection and shared work among all involved agents.
The diagnostic phase involved the active participation of all Parents' Associations (AFA) from the centers, the companies responsible for managing lunchtime, representatives from private-subsidized schools, and the children themselves. The contracting of the canteen service varies by school type: AFAs manage the service in public schools, while private-subsidized centers handle it directly.
This collaboration has identified five key areas for work: conflicts among children, support during meals, spaces, activities, and food quality and sustainability.
The diagnosis was developed through questionnaires adapted to the different participants and three working sessions. The first session brought together AFAs, companies, and private-subsidized centers; a second involved the Children's Council, with 19 representatives; and a third was held to present the results and action plan. The project is currently awaiting the final diagnosis and action plan document.
