The Puig-reig City Council has announced the restoration work carried out on six stained glass windows at the Sant Josep de Cal Pons church. This intervention, costing 140,000 euros, is part of the first phase of the temple's conservation project and was presented during the XIV Industrial Colonies Conference and the colony's local festival.
The restored stained glass windows are located in various parts of the church, including the apse, the main facade, the baptistery, and the crypt. The rehabilitation was funded by the Puig-reig City Council with 100,000 euros and the Generalitat de Catalunya with 40,000 euros. Representatives from the company Art i Tecnologia, responsible for the work, explained the restoration process and the challenges encountered, particularly in reproducing original, unpreserved images.
The mayor of Puig-reig, Eva Serra, emphasized the importance of preserving the industrial colonies' heritage. She announced a total investment of nearly 700,000 euros in completed and planned actions for the Pons colony, with 445,000 euros coming from subsidies. Upcoming projects include the restoration of the church's roof, the preservation of the Torre Nova, and garden renovations. Recently, the lantern and stained glass windows of the Torre Nova were also restored.
During the event, the crowdfunding campaign «Salvem els vitralls de Cal Pons» (Let's Save Cal Pons' Stained Glass Windows) was highlighted. Launched by several associations with the council's support, it aims to raise 42,500 euros to restore four original stained glass windows from the late 19th century located in the left nave. The presentation of the stained glass windows marked the beginning of the Cal Pons local festival and the XIV Industrial Colonies Conference, which will run throughout October with a program of activities organized by various local and museum entities.
