The food company Nestlé has reached a pre-agreement with unions to decrease the number of layoffs planned in its Employment Regulation File (ERO). Nationwide, the figure is reduced from 301 to 242 affected individuals, while in Catalonia the reduction is from 178 to 119 workers. This agreement, reached early this morning, is pending ratification by the affected workforces.
The main impact in Catalonia was concentrated at the central offices in Esplugues de Llobregat, where layoffs are reduced from 158 to 102. In Girona, the number of departures has been cut from 12 to 9, and in Reus it remains at 8, although relocation measures have been agreed upon for some employees.
The representative for Comisiones Obreras, Pablo Esteban, highlighted that the priority was to "reduce the impact of layoffs" and that "very strong conditions" have been achieved for those affected. Improvements include a retirement income plan and aid for workers over 54 years old, as well as the possibility of voluntary job swaps. Furthermore, it has been agreed that departing workers will have priority to return if vacancies arise in the future.
The agreement also includes improvements in severance packages and foresees the relocation of approximately sixty workers to other plants within the Nestlé group.
