The Department of Gender, Feminisms, and LGTBIQ+ of the Olesa de Montserrat City Council has initiated several proposals in September focused on reflecting on co-responsibility in caregiving tasks, fatherhood, and masculinity models. These activities are designed for men and fathers, aiming to create spaces for learning and experience exchange.
The councilor for this department, Emma Duran, highlighted the municipal commitment to fostering new masculinities through workshops on egalitarian fatherhood. The goal is for men to learn to be co-responsible in raising and educating their children.
The initiative responds to the need to advance towards a more equitable distribution of domestic and caregiving tasks. According to Vanessa Gutiérrez, an Equity in Work technician, women still undertake the majority of reproductive labor, leading to an overload of tasks and a lack of personal time.
This year, the department has expanded its initiatives to include workshops in Olesa's educational centers, in collaboration with the entity EntreHomes. These activities aim to question gender roles and stereotypes to build more egalitarian masculinity models.
One of the new offerings is a series of four independent workshops on fatherhood, to be held at the Santa Oliva Library. Each two-hour session will cover topics such as 'The Caring Father: Co-responsibility and Presence,' 'Growing with Children: The Father's Role at Each Stage,' 'Couple, Sexuality, and Communication After Arrival,' and 'Between Rush and Purpose: Personal Needs, Work-Life Balance, and Self-Realization'.
These sessions will be led by professionals from EntreHomes, specializing in new masculinities and fatherhood, and are designed as spaces for sharing experiences and acquiring tools for parenting and co-responsibility.
The other proposal is a preparation group for fatherhood, starting on September 30th and running every Wednesday until November 11th at the Santa Oliva Library, with a total of seven sessions. This group, organized with the CAP d'Olesa and ASSIR, aims to provide a space for reflection to prepare for a baby's arrival from an emotional and organizational perspective.
Registration for both the workshops and the preparation group can be done through the Entràpolis platform. The workshops are individually bookable, while a single registration covers the entire preparation group.
