An off-duty Mossos d’Esquadra officer from the Castelldefels police station arrested an 18-year-old man on January 9 as the alleged perpetrator of a violent robbery at a jewelry store in Vilanova i la Geltrú.

The incident occurred early in the morning when the officer, who had just left the establishment, heard the sound of breaking glass and a person shouting for help. The Catalan Police reported that the agent immediately went back towards the jewelry store.
Upon arrival, he confirmed that the access door had been forced open and spotted the young man about to flee with a briefcase containing several pieces of jewelry. The officer managed to restrain the alleged thief outside with the assistance of the store owner.
Although the officer identified himself as police, the detainee offered "strong resistance to the arrest," according to a statement released by the Mossos d’Esquadra. The total value of the stolen items exceeded 20,000 euros.
Several uniformed patrols from the Vilanova i la Geltrú Local Police and the Catalan police quickly arrived at the scene and took charge of transferring the detainee to the municipal police facilities. The arrested individual was placed at the disposal of the investigating court on duty in Vilanova i la Geltrú.
