Engineer Metkhal Khalawi has launched Xiuxiuejar, a new digital platform operating exclusively in Catalan from Molins de Rei, reaching 2,000 users in its first month.

The initiative was created by a Syrian refugee living in Catalonia since 2017. After fleeing the war in his home country, Khalawi developed this tool to promote the language and ensure personal data remains outside the reach of major American corporations.

"The data doesn't go to Google, X, or any American platform. It's made here, by and for Catalan speakers."

The network currently operates as a web version similar to X, where users post messages known as Xius. Mobile apps for Android and iPhone are expected to be released in March.
