This program, supported by the L'Hospitalet City Council, focuses on awareness and best practices in efficient energy use. During the month-long marathon, participating centers will work on actions related to water saving, climate control, electric lighting, and sustainable mobility, in addition to carrying out dissemination tasks.
Among the educational institutions that have joined the initiative are Escola La Marina, Escola Pau Vila, Escola Pablo Neruda, and Institut Rubió i Ors. Prior to the start of the marathon, preparatory sessions were held to take meter readings and calculate real consumption, detecting possible changes in consumption patterns.
Since its creation, more than 947 facilities in 29 municipalities have participated in different editions of this marathon. In L'Hospitalet, which has been involved since 2015, significant global savings have been achieved: more than 3 million kWh in electricity and nearly 50 million liters of water, in addition to a notable reduction in CO2 emissions.
This marathon is part of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, to which the municipality is adhered, committing to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. The City Council is also implementing the L’Hospitalet 2030 Energy Transition Plan, which includes measures such as promoting photovoltaic solar panels and replacing public lighting with LED technology.
