The Seat plant in Martorell is ceasing production of the Audi A1 this Thursday, after seven years, a decision that jeopardizes 159 jobs at Adient Seating Spain in Abrera.

The manufacturing of the Audi A1 at the Seat factory in Martorell will definitively stop this Thursday, seven years after its production began in 2018. This decision by the German brand comes after the Martorell plant produced approximately 72,200 units of this model last year.
Before the A1, the Catalan factory had already produced another Audi model, the Q3, between 2011 and 2018. The transfer of A1 production from Brussels to Martorell was due to platform sharing with the Seat Ibiza and Arona models, a common practice within the Volkswagen Group.
Despite the end of A1 production, Audi has left open the possibility of manufacturing the electric version of a small model in Spain. Audi CEO, Gernot Döllner, stated weeks ago that "any option to manufacture in group plants is open".
The discontinuation of Audi A1 production will have a direct impact on 159 workers at Adient Seating Spain, the Abrera-based company responsible for manufacturing seats for this model. The president of the works council, Víctor Parra (CCOO), explained that this figure includes 102 affected by an already announced ERE (Employment Regulation File) and 57 people hired through temporary employment agencies (ETT).
