The Cooperativa Obrera de Viviendas (COV) and the El Prat de Llobregat City Council handed over the keys to 101 affordable rental homes on Saturday, January 31, marking a pioneering milestone in Catalonia.

This project, located at Pasaje de Rosa Sensat, culminates years of collective effort and establishes a significant milestone in Catalonia, consolidating a stable, cooperative housing model that defends housing as a right, not a speculative product. It is the largest development in the region where management is carried out entirely by a cooperative.

"These keys we hand over are the result of the history of the COV. And they are also the result of a sustained commitment over the years: El Prat's commitment to the right to housing."

A total of 89 families have become members of the COV. The remaining 12 units will be managed by Prat Espais, including two allocated to the COOUFAR cooperative for an inclusive community for people with intellectual disabilities. Antonio Pedrero, President of the COV, highlighted that the project fulfills the founding principle of the entity, established in 1962 to ensure access to decent housing.
The building, developed on public land ceded by the City Council, boasts an A energy rating thanks to community aerothermal systems and cross-ventilation. The financing was 100% public, ethical, and cooperative, supported by the Institut Català de Finances (ICF), the Catalan Housing Agency, Coop57, and Fiare Banca Ética.
