The new facility, covering 70,000 m² of built area, consolidates operations previously spread across plants in Barcelona and El Prat de Llobregat. It boasts a production capacity of 200 million square meters of corrugated cardboard and features cutting-edge flexographic and offset printing technology.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the mayor of Sant Esteve Sesrovires, Roser Brosed; the President and CEO of the Saica Group, Susana Alejandro; the plant director, Josep Ferrás; the Director General of Industry, Xavier Roca; and the President of the Regional Council of Baix Llobregat, Eva Martínez, among other dignitaries.
Mayor Roser Brosed highlighted that the investment confirms Sant Esteve Sesrovires as a reliable, well-connected, and competitive municipality, emphasizing the new factory's commitment to sustainability and innovation, aligning with circular economy objectives.
Susana Alejandro stated that the investment strengthens the group's presence in a strategic territory like Barcelona and reinforces its commitment to sustainable development and long-term growth.
As a symbol of welcome, the Sant Esteve Sesrovires City Council presented an oak tree, which has been planted at the entrance of the new facilities. The company explained that paper waste generated during production will be recycled at Saica Paper plants, and process water will be treated on-site, improving logistical efficiency and reducing road transport.
Saica acquired the land in the Can Margarit industrial park in 2010, and the foundation stone for the new factory was laid on November 24, 2023.
