On Thursday, October 8, the Plenary Hall of the City Council hosted the presentation of the Municipal Accessibility Council of Santa Coloma de Cervelló. This new citizen participation space aims to work collaboratively to improve accessibility in the municipality and promote personal autonomy.
Approximately twenty people attended the event, including representatives from senior citizen groups, neighborhood associations, women's associations, municipal political groups, technical staff from the City Council, and the general public.
During the session, an expert from the Fundació ECOM provided an explanation on the concept of accessibility and the various areas of action for the Council. The session also detailed its operational procedures, eligibility criteria for participation, and the application process.
The Council is established with the aim of giving voice and visibility to individuals and groups facing challenges in accessing spaces, goods, and services, fostering a shared effort towards a more inclusive municipality focused on ensuring independent living.
The City Council encourages citizens to learn about and engage with this new participation forum, recognizing that accessibility is a cross-cutting issue that can affect anyone at different stages of life.
Membership in the Council is open to registered non-profit entities within the municipality and individual citizens upon application and approval. Interested individuals are required to complete the online application form.
The inaugural session of the Council is scheduled for Thursday, December 3, coinciding with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
