The agreement involves a future land swap: the current municipal plot will be used for the construction of an Iberian world Interpretation Center, adjacent to the Iberian Citadel of Calafell. This center, spanning 800 m2 with an investment of approximately 2.5 million euros, will be funded by the hotel chain Homargrup.
Homargrup, a hotel operator since 1986, plans a 5-star hotel with 450 rooms, a Congress Center, a 'rooftop' restaurant, Spa&Wellness, a gym, and outdoor areas with pools. The total investment could reach 50 million euros, and around 300 jobs are expected to be created. The former Louie Vega nightclub will be preserved and integrated into the new facilities.
The mayor of Calafell, Ramon Ferré, highlighted that the project will position the municipality as a top-tier tourist destination, attracting international business clientele, particularly from the United States and China. Ferré also emphasized that the new Iberian world Interpretation Center, featuring an immersive space and exhibition gallery, will enhance the Iberian Citadel.
The Councilor for Tourism, Lluïsa Lastra, added that promoting historical heritage is key to moving beyond sun-and-beach tourism. She noted that the Iberian Citadel will become a premier attraction for international visitors, not just school groups, necessitating multilingual tours and adapted activities.
